As the world moves towards a more sustainable way of life, Ireland must invest significantly in creating a carbon-free energy system. The Irish Government has set out a target of achieving 5 GW capacity in offshore wind by 2030 with the ambition of taking advantage of a potential of at least 30GW of offshore floating wind power in our deeper waters of the Atlantic.
DeepWindDemo aims to develop innovative solutions for the Irish floating wind industry by utilising optimised dual vertical axis wind turbines on a single semisubmersible floating platform. Tests are currently being conducted by University of Galway on the turbine lay-ups, see below for some of the stress analysis results.
Tá an domhain ar thĂłir saol nĂos inbhuanaithe, agus tá gá d’Éirinn infheistiĂş suntasach a dhĂ©anamh i gcĂłras fuinnimh saor Ăł charbĂłin. Tá sprioc leagtha amach ag an rialtas chun cumas 5GW gaoth Ăłn talamh a bhaint amach faoi 2030, le mian leas a bhaint as cumhacht gaoth Ăłn talamh ar snámh de ar a laghad 30GW in uiscĂ nĂos doimhne an Atlantaigh.
Tá sĂ© mar aidhm ag DeepWindDemo rĂ©itigh nuálacha a fhorbairt don tionscal fuinneamh gaoithe ar snámh in Éirinn, trĂ thuirbĂnĂ gaoithe dĂ©-ais ingearacha barrfheabhsaithe a Ăşsáid ar ardán amháin leath-intumtha ar snámh. Faoi láthair, tá Ollscoil na Gaillimhe ag dĂ©anamh tástálacha ar an tuirbĂn, fĂ©ach thĂos roinnt torthaĂ Ăłn anailĂs struis.
